On selection Sunday, the SAS-powered Dance Card and its creators had more to celebrate than St. Patrick's Day. The Dance Card model was perfect, accurately predicting all 37 at-large bids to the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament.
The Dance Card was built with SAS analytics by Jay Coleman of the University of North Florida (in Jacksonville), Allen Lynch of Mercer University (in Macon, Ga.) and Mike DuMond of Charles River Associates and Florida State Univ. (in Tallahassee).
Recent media coverage about the Dance Card includes:
- Time.com: Predicting the NCAA Men’s Basketball Field — and Discovering the Selection Committee’s Biases
- WRAL-TV: SAS software helps with bracketology (video)
- Triangle Business Journal: SAS’ big-data analytics perfectly predict NCAA Tournament field
Congratulations Jay, Allen & Mike!
